Melat's mother, Addise attended school until the 8th grade, but her husband, Astatke never had the opportunity to go to school. So Melat’s father and mother both work as daily laborers and raise their children. They live in a rented house and have two children.

Melat is 8 years old and is a second-grader at Bobocho Primary School. Her favorite subject is Amharic, and she wants to be a teacher when she grows up in the future.
